We lost our appeal in front of the planning commission. There were some amazing moments from Commissioner Jensen in particular, who spoke in support of the appeal, eloquent and succinct in her argument. Thanks to everyone who showed up to lend their support.
Attend the Planning Commission Meeting
Save Our Trails is appealing the approval of a canopy over the trail. The more people we have at the meeting, the more effective our message is.
Planning Commission Meeting
Wed, August 26, 2009, 6:30pm
San Jose City Hall, City Council Chambers
200 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA 95113
Write a letter of support
There is still time to write a letter to the San Jose Planning Commission before the meeting.
- Begin the letter with, Dear Chairman Do and Honorable Commissioners
- Send a letter by August 26 to Sylvia Do sylvia.do@sanjoseca.gov. (Sylvia Do is a staff member, and not the chairman)
- Reference Stucco Supply Site Development Permit Appeal H 09-009
- It is important that the letter be your own personal words and views.
- Include your affiliations: what cities you live and work in, whether you are a biker, hiker, or mom who likes to use the trails, if you are a member of a community organization.
Some other points you might make are: The importance of the strip of green parkland through the mostly industrial area; The recreational value to workers in the area; The lack of any alternative to the UPRR right-of-way for a pleasant tree-lined and plant-lined trail; The fact that if the construction permit is granted, the trail cannot be connected; The utter inadequacy of the alternative routes to connect the trails; The fact that the trail and a driveway to the Stucco Supply Company can co-exist; there is room for both uses; The relative failure of the city to value the recreational needs of citizens in low income neighborhoods.
