Greetings,

There is great news to report on the Three Creeks Trail.

We wanted to let you know that the Board of Supervisors will consider allocating $2 million dollars from our Parks Charter Fund for the acquisition of the western alignment of the Three Creeks Trail during our meeting on September 14th. This will greatly assist the City of San Jose in trail acquisition which includes the railroad right-of-way from Lonus to Broadway and from Broadway to Minnesota. It will also secure the land for recreational use before it is developed for additional residential projects.

We both worked hard to bring this proposal to this point in the process, and we are hopeful that our colleagues on the Board will be supportive of our efforts.

As you well understand, this is an important community project, and we are proud to partner with the City of San Jose to move it forward. The acquisition of land will provide a regional connection as it would link two of the three trail systems, the Los Gatos Creek Trail and Guadalupe River Trail via the Highway 87 bike path.

The eastern alignment remains a priority for us as well, and we will continue our efforts to bring the vision of the entire trail to fruition so that there will be connectivity with the Coyote Creek Trail.

Please do not hesitate to contact either of us if you have any questions or if we can be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Supervisor Ken Yeager
President, Board of Supervisors
Supervisor, Fourth District

Supervisor George Shirakawa
Supervisor, Second District

On July 26th the Acquisition Committee voted unanimously to recommend to the full Board that the Open Space Authority provide an additional $1M for acquisition of the 3 Creeks Trail reach from Lonus Avenue to Minnesota Avenue in Willow Glen. This appears to be enough to fully fund the purchase, if the full Board follows the recommendation and negotiations with Union Pacific continue on the currently favorable course.
